Honesty is still the best policy!

return moneyI consider myself an honest person! I don’t try to cheat or treat anyone unfairly.

There was a time when I might have been handed back more money in the check-out line than I was suppose to get and I would have kept it – just charging it to good fortune.

But stealing, defrauding, dishonesty, cheating, and lying are not good and are not fortuitous.
If I am to treat my neighbor as I would want to be treated then that means I must be honest with others.

Twice this week, two different restaurants made mistakes in my favor. On one occasion I finished my ice cream cone and returned to the register to pay for the grandchildren’s cones, which had not been charged.
The woman thanked me for my honesty and said there should be more honest people in the world.

The second time was at the Rain Forest Café when I should have been given $6 in change and was given almost $20 instead. I could have just got up and walked out but I waited several minutes trying to flag down our waiter.
By the time he returned he had also discovered his mistake.

I am not trying to brag about my deeds but to point out that it is a godly requirement to be honest.
You must use accurate scales when you weigh out merchandise, and you must use full and honest measures. Yes, always use honest weights and measures, so that you may enjoy a long life in the land the Lord your God is giving you. All who cheat with dishonest weights and measures are detestable to the Lord your God. Deut 25:13-16

It also says those who are honest and fair, who refuse to profit by fraud, who stay far away from bribes, who refuse to listen to those who plot murder, who shut their eyes to all enticement to do wrong— these are the ones who will dwell on high. The rocks of the mountains will be their fortress. Food will be supplied to them, and they will have water in abundance. Isa 33:15-16
