The Power of Say-er – The Power of Prayer

praying3I have experienced the power of prayer firsthand. I know what it is like to be prayed for and I know what it is to pray for another.

The Bible says so much about prayer. Prayer is first mentioned in Genesis chapter 20 where Abimelech is told that Abram will pray for him.

That’s just a bit of biblical trivia; you’re probably more interested in what prayer can do for you.
That answer once again will come from the Bible.

Jesus said, “Have faith in God. For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says. Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them.” Mark 11:22-24

While this seems to address faith, I think it addresses the power of “say-er” and prayer.
What you say does make a difference.
The power of what comes out of your mouth – to bless or to curse, can change bend a life, a thought, or an attitude.

Couple what you say with a prayer and you begin to touch the face of God.
This is not impossible! Don’t speak the words “I could never to that!”

Elijah was a man with a nature like ours. James 5:17
Elijah is no different than you. He was a man that became angry, he pouted, he felt sorry for himself – does any of that sound familiar.
There was nothing extraordinarily special about Elijah. He believed in God but still suffered with the sin nature.

He prayed earnestly that it would not rain; and it did not rain on the land for three years and six months. And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth produced its fruit. James 5:17-18
This sinful man that believed in God had the faith to pray for the impossible; but he spoke the words that it would not rain except by his word!
It was not just a prayer – it was a spoken prayer.

The power of say-er the power of prayer.

Though I have proclaimed that Elijah was a sinner, because everyone has sinned and fallen short of God’s glory; so in that sense he is a sinner.
Elijah was also a righteous man.
Before James shares about Elijah’s nature and prayer to stop and start rain, James says the effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much. James 5:16

If you want to see power in your prayer, then pray in Jesus’ name – it’s the only way you will ever be righteous.
Speak your prayers – speak them aloud. Let others hear your faith spoken from your mouth!
