Right after the “salt of the earth” scripture is another nice verse that can be taken as milk or meat.

“You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father. Matt 5:14-16

Light has certain properties just like salt does.

Why do you turn on a light when you enter a room?
So you can see!

Light is able to do something that nothing else can do.
Light gets rid of darkness.

On a clear night you can stand outside and see the light of stars that are millions and millions of miles away.

Even in a very dark place a single candle will stick out of the darkness.

So you are the light of the world.

You light a path for others to find God.

You shine and darkness flees! This allows others to see your goodness in Christ and glorify God.

You are not to cover up this light! But let it shine – like a city on a hill – for everyone to see.

How do you get this light?
Accept Jesus as your Savior!
And read God’s word! Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path. Ps 119:105
