Sin kills – Confession heals

secret-sinYou spread out our sins before you — our secret sins — and you see them all. Ps 90:8

The couple wanted to join in like everybody else. Others were giving to the church to help the less fortunate. They wanted to help too. This husband and wife talked it over and decided to sell some property they owned. It was quite a sacrifice – giving up a piece of land. But it was for the greater good of the movement going on in their church.

However something happened inside this couple. They received a really good price for the property – more than they expected. It was genuinely hard to let go of all that cash. They really wanted to give to the church but they, too, had other obligations.

So they thought up a scheme. They would only give part of the money but claim it was the entire amount. The husband and wife agreed together to do this.

Then Ananias, the husband, took part of the money and brought it to the church. He gave it to those in charge.

One of them spoke up.

Then Peter said, “Ananias, why have you let Satan fill your heart? You lied to the Holy Spirit, and you kept some of the money for yourself. The property was yours to sell or not sell, as you wished. And after selling it, the money was also yours to give away. How could you do a thing like this? You weren’t lying to us but to God!”
As soon as Ananias heard these words, he fell to the floor and died. Acts 5:3-5

Not knowing what had happened, a few hours later Sapphira, his wife, arrives at church.

Peter asked her, “Was this the price you and your husband received for your land?”
“Yes,” she replied, “that was the price.”
And Peter said, “How could the two of you even think of conspiring to test the Spirit of the Lord like this? The young men who buried your husband are just outside the door, and they will carry you out, too.”
Instantly, she fell to the floor and died. Acts 5:8-10

This sin was secret.
No one knew!
No one but God.

Sin is never secret and is never aimed at just one person. Sin is always aimed at God.
When King David committed adultery and murder he said, “Against you, and you alone, have I sinned; I have done what is evil in your sight.” Ps 51:4

You cannot sin in secret and keep it a secret. Sooner or later it’s going to leak.
No matter what that sin is there is healing.
Again I will refer to James 5:16 – Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed.

Ps 41:4 – “O Lord,” I prayed, “have mercy on me. Heal me, for I have sinned against you.”
Prov 3:7-8 – fear the Lord and turn away from evil. Then you will have healing for your body and strength for your bones.

There is healing in turning away from sin!
