From then on Jesus began to preach, “Repent of your sins and turn to God, for the Kingdom of Heaven is near.” Matt 4:17
The next step to reaching your fullest potential in Christ is to give the message.
After His baptism and temptation, Jesus began His preaching/teaching ministry.
The first message He gave was short, simple, to the point, and familiar – it was the exact same message of John the baptizer, which was “Repent of your sins and turn to God, for the Kingdom of Heaven is near.” Matt 3:2
That just goes to show you don’t need new ideas, new revelation, or new enlightenment.
Jesus didn’t! He stuck with a message that was previously known.
You can stick with the message that has been preached for 2000 years. There is no need for further revelation or enlightenment!
And sometimes a new message revealed to you is an old message already known by someone else.
The message should be simple.
Paul said that when he first visited the Corinthian’s “I didn’t use lofty words and impressive wisdom to tell you God’s secret plan” and “my message and my preaching were very plain. Rather than using clever and persuasive speeches, I relied only on the power of the Holy Spirit.” (1 Cor 2:1, 4)
When I first came to you, dear brothers and sisters,
The message must be truthful.
Paul preached to the Galatians but then someone came behind him and preached a different “gospel”.
This is what he had to say about it – Let God’s curse fall on anyone, including us or even an angel from heaven, who preaches a different kind of Good News than the one we preached to you. I say again what we have said before: If anyone preaches any other Good News than the one you welcomed, let that person be cursed. Gal 1:8-9
It’s very important that you stick with the truth of God’s word and not change it to suit political correctness or to make it inoffensive!
The message must be consistent.
I passed on to you what was most important and what had also been passed on to me. Christ died for our sins, just as the Scriptures said. 1 Cor 15:3
Paul admits that he was just passing along the same message that he had heard and that the rest of the scripture revealed.
He goes on to mention the other disciples, apostles, and the church leadership in Jerusalem in saying, “it makes no difference whether I preach or they preach, for we all preach the same message you have already believed.” 1 Cor 15:11
Finally and most importantly is the message must reveal Christ.
“You see, we don’t go around preaching about ourselves, we preach that Jesus Christ is Lord” is the message Paul gave to the church of Corinth. (2 Cor 4:5)
The message is not about you or me.
It’s not about our church.
It’s not about our programs.
It’s all about Jesus!
YES & AMEN. It’s all about Jesus or it’s useless.
