Twice As Warm

On a cold night, two under the same blanket can gain warmth from each other. But how can one be warm alone? Eccl 4:11 NLT
The past couple of nights has made me realize how old I am getting.
Though not the most extreme temperature on the planet, still 11 degrees in East Texas is bone chilling to we southerners.
As this blue-norther started blowing in, my body began to ache like I’ve never felt before.
My shoulders and elbows ache; my neck and back.
I can only attribute it to getting older.
Linda has also had her share of aches and pains but most of her problem has been in keeping warm.
It’s a good thing we have each other to keep warm and to have someone to complain to about the weather.
But our verse deals with more than just cold weather and keeping warm.
The whole section says two people can accomplish more than twice as much as one; they get a better return for their labor. If one person falls, the other can reach out and help. But people who are alone when they fall are in real trouble. And on a cold night, two under the same blanket can gain warmth from each other. But how can one be warm alone? A person standing alone can be attacked and defeated, but two can stand back-to-back and conquer. Three are even better, for a triple-braided cord is not easily broken. Eccl 4:9-12 NLT
It is easier to keep a righteous relationship with God in the presence of others trying to do the same.
We help each other in our struggles and victories.
We encourage one another to get up and keep going.
Another way the Bible puts it is this, As iron sharpens iron, a friend sharpens a friend. Prov 27:17 NLT
So my encouragement to you is to surround yourself with other Christians in church, in groups, and together you’ll face the struggles, persecutions, trials, and tribulations.
But together you’ll also encourage to stand strong in the word, to keep the faith, and to grow in the Lord.

Face The Lion

David said to Saul, “Your servant used to keep his father’s sheep, and when a lion or a bear came and took a lamb out of the flock, I went out after it and struck it, and delivered the lamb from its mouth; and when it arose against me, I caught it by its beard, and struck and killed it. Your servant has killed both lion and bear; and this uncircumcised Philistine will be like one of them, seeing he has defied the armies of the living God.” 1 Sam 17:34-36 Continue reading

I'm Not Hurting Anyone Else

Take note, you have sinned against the LORD; and be sure your sin will find you out. Num 32:23
I hear it all the time; I’m not hurting anybody else.
Whether it’s drinking, drugs, smoking, over eating, or whatever, it’s usually the answer I get when I say, “That’s bad for you!” Continue reading

What Are They Singing About?

I have a 3 months free subscription to XM satellite radio and Linda and I have been listening to the 50’s style music.
Now both of us are very familiar with this era because it was what our parents listened to when they were teenagers and it filter on in after both of us were born. Continue reading

A Christmas Carol

One of my favorite movies was on last night, A Christmas Carol.
Originally a book by English author Charles Dickens.
Of course the story is about Ebenezer Scrooge a miserly, cold, unfeeling, old and curmudgeonly man and his Christmas conversion and redemption after being visited by four ghosts. Continue reading

God's Joy Versus Our Joy

God desires to give us great joy. When Paul talks about the fruits of the Spirit, joy is listed second only to love (Gal. 5:22).
God’s idea of joy was to provide a way to restore the broken fellowship between Him and us. He desires to forgive us of sin but because of His holy nature cannot just overlook it. Continue reading

Little Children

Then little children were brought to Him that He might put His hands on them and pray, but the disciples rebuked them. Matt 19:13
I took Linda to the ballet performance of the Nutcracker last Friday evening.
As we sat in the balcony, the seats continued to fill up with all kinds of people. Continue reading

The Hot And Spicy Word Of God

Behold, I will make My words in your mouth fire. Jer 5:14
Have you heard someone exclaim, “My mouth is on fire”?
It often happens after they eat a hot pepper but I never really saw any flames coming out of their mouth so it really wasn’t “on fire.” Continue reading
