What you will leave behind!

old_man_with_childChildren’s children are the crown of old men, and the glory of children is their father. Prov 17:6

What will you leave behind for your children?
I’m not talking about the house, stamp collection, dishes, and municipal bonds. I’m talking about the real things they will remember – the things that will change their lives and lead them to change others. Continue reading

What will that child be?

children-in-classroomI think it was my 7th grade school teacher that wanted every one of her students to give her a small school picture. Her reasoning was if one of us became an astronaut or president, she’d have a recollection of us and could say, “That was one of my students!”
I only have a vague memory of that year and so I’m not sure what each of those 7th graders have gone on to do. Continue reading

Love and Compassion

A few days later this younger son packed all his belongings and moved to a distant land, and there he wasted all his money in wild living. About the time his money ran out, a great famine swept over the land, and he began to starve. He persuaded a local farmer to hire him, and the man sent him into his fields to feed the pigs. The young man became so hungry that even the pods he was feeding the pigs looked good to him. But no one gave him anything. Luke 15:13-16 Continue reading

One Child at a Time

I imagine I can be quite frightening to little children. When they come to church and watch me preach, they get a glimpse of someone that paces back and forth while raising his voice and making wild gestures. Continue reading

Abba Father

For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.” Rom 8:14-15
I have been doing some study on the word Abba, since watching a movie called Father of Lights. Continue reading

Adopted

God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure. Eph 1:5
Our topic touched on adoption last night. Continue reading

Put Away Childish Things

When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child; but when I became a man, I put away childish things. 1 Cor 13:11
I remember when I turned 12 years old, it was the day I was no longer a child.
I had a great collection of Hot Wheels cars, the track, super-boosters; the whole works. Continue reading

This one is for Katie!

Even a child is known by his deeds, whether what he does is pure and right. Prov 20:11
I want to take time to honor my friend.
Van Walker was one of my very best friends through high school. He was not an acquaintance – we hung together, ate lunch together, sat together; we were together on weekends, whether at the beach or camping on the Trinity River. Continue reading

The Due Date

The due date of December 20th has come and gone; as has the 21st and now it is the morning of the 22nd.
The predicting of a birth is an extremely inaccurate science.
Here I am, on vacation and awaiting the birth of a grandson. Continue reading

Pray for the Children

Linda had a Christmas lunch at school and invited me to it.
I arrived a bit early and sat in the cafeteria while she finished up with the Pre-K class.
I know a few of the children in her class but seeing all of them together eating lunch brought back a flood of memories from my own childhood. Continue reading
