Waiting In Line

morning thoughts

Morning thoughts from Pastor Tim

Good Morning!

This is the day the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.

grocery_lineDoes this ever happen to you; you go to the store and pick up a few items and head to the check out.
As you approach it you see one lane with 5 people, another with 6, that one has 4, and you’re lucky enough to get in the line with just 2 people ahead of you.
That happened to me yesterday and as I stood in my line with 2 others, I noticed the 5 and 4 person lines quickly diminished.
In fact, some lady got into the 5-person line when it was a 3-person line and walked out of the store before I did.
I didn’t realize that I was in the Christmas line. I call it that because it was slower than Christmas.
And if I had switched over to another line that one would grocery-clerk-checking-out-groceriehave slowed to a crawl.
I don’t like waiting!
Yet not waiting can get you into trouble, as is the case with King Saul.
As for Saul, he was still in Gilgal, and all the people followed him trembling. Then he waited seven days, according to the time set by Samuel. But Samuel king_saul006did not come to Gilgal; and the people were scattered from him. So Saul said, “Bring a burnt offering and peace offerings here to me.” And he offered the burnt offering.  Now it happened, as soon as he had finished presenting the burnt offering, that Samuel came; and Saul went out to meet him, that he might greet him.
And Samuel said, “What have you done?”
1 Sam 13:7-11
Not waiting cost King Saul his kingdom, his family, and eventually his life.
Throughout the Psalms we are encouraged to wait on God so perhaps the supermarket check out line is good practice.

  1. This has happened to me more than I would like to remember. Usually with my children at my side and trying to get somewhere in a hurry. I take this time to remind my children (twins 5yrs) that while we would like things to go quickly for us that the Bible says that “those who are first shall be last and those that are last shall be first” . My child to this has replied ” we will get to go first alot then in heaven” Oh to have the thoughts of a child again.
