All Shook Up

morning thoughts

Morning thoughts from Pastor Tim

This is the day the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.

It’s Christmas Eve and I have the day off so I laid around a bit more this morning.
Linda and I had our Christmas coffee in bed watching the news and a few old shows.
At one point I took a swallow of coffee and it went down the wrong pipe causing me to cough and gag.
Linda asked if I was alright and I was but I began singing to an old Elvis song,  I’m all choked up…uh huh huh…huh…yea, yea, I’m all choked up.
We got a laugh out of it but then began to wonder what the actual name of the song was.
Since I planted the seed we couldn’t get “I’m all choked up” out of our heads and I’m one of those that will think about it all day until it comes to me.
So I kept singing it over and over in my head, substituting different words for choked.
“I’m all booked up”… no!
“I’m all loved up”… no!
“I’m all filled up”… no!
Over and over until the light bulb went off, “I’m all shook up!”
That’s it!
Some of the things I try to remember are not as quick to come as this.
We can recognize someone and not remember who they are or where we have seen them.
Three weeks later I may suddenly shout out a name, much to Linda’s surprise.
She respond with “What?” and I’ll tell her that was the name of the person we saw at the store three weeks ago.
Sometimes it’s that way with scripture. I guess it’s a normal part of growing older.
Perhaps this is why the Bible is so adamant about teaching it to your family.
Even to the point that God said, “Tie them to your hands as a reminder, and wear them on your forehead.” Deut 6:8
If I handle God’s word more (tie them to your hands) and read it more (wear them on your forehead) then I won’t have such a problem remember what the word says.
And neither will you.
That way when someone asks me a question about the Bible I won’t be “all shook up.”

  1. Yep, that’s part of getting older, LOL! We were listening to a Christmas CD of Gold City yesterday, back when they had a fantastic high tenor singing with the group. He has such a unique voice that I recognize him every time I hear I hear him singing. BUT, I could not think of his name. Sooooo, I asked the Holy Spirit to help me, and in a few minutes, I remembered~~~it was Brian Free, who now has his own group, Brian Free and Assurance. I am guilty of not having enough of God’s word “hidden in my heart,” but, I’m working on it:) Loved how you did the pics of the Grandchildren as Christmas ornaments on a Christmas tree. Enjoy your time off with your family, and see ya Sunday!
    Merry CHRISTmas Y’all!
