Filled With The Spirit

morning thoughts

Morning thoughts from Pastor Tim

This is the day the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.

Christ Church Stellarton“Are ya’ll a Spirit filled church?”
I was asked that question yesterday.
To me, the answer depends on those that make up the church.
The building itself is just a building but the people that occupy it are the church.
Are each of them Spirit filled?
Yes, to some degree.
If by exhibition of the gifts of the Spirit every time we meet, again, that depends on the gifts.
Are we speaking about tongues, interpretations, healings, teaching, prophesying, jumping pews, falling out, helps, or administration?
Perhaps it’s the greatest gift, love!
A church is as Spirit-filled as those that are there.
I’ve been in churches where everyone went wild during the music service and was as dead as could be during the preaching.
When it comes to being Spirit filled many think of the Day of Pentecost; I think of Bezalel.
You can find out about him in Exodus.
Then the LORD spoke to Moses, saying: “See, I have called by name Bezalel the son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah. And I have filled him with the Spirit of God, in wisdom, in understanding, in knowledge, and in all manner of workmanship, to design artistic works, to work in gold, in silver, in bronze, in cutting jewels for setting, in carving wood, and to work in all manner of workmanship.” Ex 31:1-5
This guy was definitely filled with the Spirit because God said so.
The Spirit gave him the ability to do what God wanted him to do.
I believe in the gifts of the Spirit and I am not trying to diminish them in any way.
But to perform the will of God has go to be evidence of being Spirit filled.
To love your enemies can only be done with the Spirit.
To commit to prayer, Bible study, assembly can only be done with the Spirit.
And love is the greatest gift of all and to do it without bias or discrimination can only be done by the Spirit.
