The Shepherds

“Woe to the shepherds who destroy and scatter the sheep of My pasture!” says the LORD. Therefore thus says the LORD God of Israel against the shepherds who feed My people: “You have scattered My flock, driven them away, and not attended to them. Behold, I will attend to you for the evil of your doings,” says the LORD. Jer 23:1-2
And the word of the LORD came to me, saying, “Son of man, prophesy against the shepherds of Israel, prophesy and say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord GOD to the shepherds: “Woe to the shepherds of Israel who feed themselves! Should not the shepherds feed the flocks? You eat the fat and clothe yourselves with the wool; you slaughter the fatlings, but you do not feed the flock. The weak you have not strengthened, nor have you healed those who were sick, nor bound up the broken, nor brought back what was driven away, nor sought what was lost; but with force and cruelty you have ruled them. So they were scattered because there was no shepherd; and they became food for all the beasts of the field when they were scattered. My sheep wandered through all the mountains, and on every high hill; yes, My flock was scattered over the whole face of the earth, and no one was seeking or searching for them.” Ezek 34:1-6
“Woe to the worthless shepherd, Who leaves the flock!” Zech 11:17
Are these warnings for today’s pastors, preachers, teachers, and evangelists?
I can think of some that I highly disagree with.
Their words and belief have caused many to stray.
Their doctrine has poisoned the reasoning of the weak.
The young pastor Timothy was told the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables. 2 Tim 4:3-4
As for those that are scratching the ears, they have not only condemned themselves but those that listen to them.

  1. So much in my heart to respond to this. What God wants is for us to believe Him and trust. If people would study for them selves Father will open their understanding. I do love my pastor. And I study, I search the Word for answers. And I find them. Just as God said, “seek and you will find.” My Bible is my personal love letter from Jesus. Reading it inhances our relationship. Maybe thats whats wrong with so many, they don’t want or wont read it for them selves.
