I don’t know why it struck her as so funny but as we were searching for a Christian T-shirt to give to our church camp director, Linda and I came upon one that said, “Jesus died for Pedro…and He died for you too!”
She begins laughing and I knew we were getting this shirt.
Once I got home I wanted to see if there was some hidden meaning behind it.
One blogger says it’s designed after a Vote for Pedro t-shirt from the movie Napoleon Dynamite.
The blogger wrote, “That’s one of the stupidest things I ever read! Seeing moronic things like this is one of the reasons I hate going to the Christian bookstore.”
Hmm? You don’t know our camp director! He’ll love it.
The name Pedro can be loosely translated to the English name Peter.
And Jesus did die for Peter and the Pedro’s of the world.
I’ve seen many Christian t-shirts over the years that copied other slogans.
Jesus is the Real Thing!
Bloodwiser – the King of Kings.
The slogans go on and on and I have no problem with them.
Those that wear them [to me] are showing their pride in Jesus more than Coke, Pepsi, or My Space!
There is always an underlying message or scripture to be found.
“Jesus died for Pedro but He died for you too” ends with a reference to Romans 5:8, But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. If you don’t like the saying then mark out Pedro and just insert your name.
The shirt will still say the truth!
