And at midnight a cry was heard: ‘Behold, the bridegroom is coming; go out to meet him!’ Matt 25:6
The coming of the bridegroom was no surprise.
His coming was announced as an outcry was made.
He was coming like a thief in the night to steal his bride away, though she is not mentioned.
Who heard the outcry?
The bride was sure to hear the announcement as did the virgins since all those virgins arose and trimmed their lamps. Matt 25:7
They all heard the cry since they all got up and made their lamps ready.
But there is still a problem; And the foolish said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.’ But the wise answered, saying, ‘No, lest there should not be enough for us and you; but go rather to those who sell, and buy for yourselves.’ And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went in with him to the wedding; and the door was shut. Matt 25:8-10
They were all virgins, waiting on the bridegroom, each with lamps filled with oil but only five had extra oil, that is, only 5 were really prepared for the bridegroom’s arrival.
He came and took the 5 that were prepared.
They all went to the wedding and the door was shut.
The wedding begins and everyone that is expected to be there should be.
The word for wedding is gamous, a plural of gam, meaning to bind or unite.
However in the plural form it may indicate more of a feast.
The same word is used in Revelation 19:9, Then he said to me, “Write: ‘Blessed are those who are called to the marriage supper of the Lamb!'”
What I get out of this is there is a great feast that is to be expected and the coming of the bridegroom will be known.
Paul told us, “But you, brethren, are not in darkness, so that this Day should overtake you as a thief. You are all sons of light and sons of the day. We are not of the night nor of darkness. Therefore let us not sleep, as others do, but let us watch and be sober.” 1 Thess 5:4-6
