Then little children were brought to Him that He might put His hands on them and pray, but the disciples rebuked them. Matt 19:13
I took Linda to the ballet performance of the Nutcracker last Friday evening.
As we sat in the balcony, the seats continued to fill up with all kinds of people.
Then what to our surprised did appear, but a mom and her 2 children, O dear!
The youngest appeared to be less than 2 years old and the other must have been around 5.
I’m glad they were sitting in front of us so I could keep an eye on them and not worry about either bumping the back of my head.
The first thing that happened is the youngest dropped his sucker down the back of the lady in front of them.
This may be more entertaining than the ballet but I paid money for the seats to see the ballet.
Linda and I both thought this was not the place for children that young.
During the first hour they were as good as they could possibly be but after intermission it was just too long for either.
I think back to the time I sat in First Baptist Church in Dallas with my baby Lindsey.
She wiggled and cooed and laughed as I tried to occupy her attention so others could hear the sermon.
After the service the lady in front of me turned around and said, “I sure enjoyed hearing that baby during the service!”
Where else should our children be but with their parents or in the house of God.
I guess I shouldn’t complain about the mom and her children.
She wanted it to be a special family night for them all.
I only hope that she’ll take them to church and let them meet Jesus.
As a small child I was sent to church if I wanted to go. It was not a family thing. I was alone. I went a few times as a teenager. I did not know what it was to go as a family. As an adult, where I went my children went! No babysitters. At church we went to our seperater class’. But they were with me in the maine service. I was a disaplenaren. No talking, no wiggling, and no napping. Now as a grannie, I’m not so strict. I do love the sounds of children in service.Yes at times it can be distracting. But I am sucrue in the Lord, and I can always call the pastor or someone else for their notes on what I missed. I get such call every now and then. I love the fellowship over the phone.
