Are You Ready For Eternity?

Rejoice, O young man, in your youth, And let your heart cheer you in the days of your youth; Walk in the ways of your heart, And in the sight of your eyes; But know that for all these God will bring you into judgment. Therefore remove sorrow from your heart, And put away evil from your flesh, For childhood and youth are vanity. Eccl 11:9-10
Saturday was quite a day.
It started off with a trip to the gym in Broaddus to watch Haylee play Lil Dribblers.
As I watched her I thought, “There she is, just starting school sports. Who knows; I may be watching her play in her senior year someday.”
She’s only 7 and her whole life is before her.
Then Linda and I went to our nephew’s wedding shower; a fine looking young man of 22 with a beautiful fiancé.
They will have their whole lives ahead of them as a married couple.
After we left, Linda and I went to a funeral home where 20-year old Jason is being visited by old and young alike.
He, too, had his whole life ahead of him.
I ran into DL, his grandfather.
I remember going to church with DL some 30 years ago.
He was one of our deacons.
DL told me he was about to be 89 years old.
His youth is gone and I’ve spent most of mine too.
And before Haylee or my nephew realize it, theirs will be evaporated.
For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away. James 4:14
In my short time on this earth, I have come to realize that life is short but eternity has yet to even begin, though some have already stepped over to it.
I am ready but are you.
Jason did not expect his life to end so soon.
Though he is almost 89, that day will still come too soon for DL.
What about you?
Are you ready for eternity?

  1. So many of us think we’re ready to meet Jesus face to face. But, if we’ll get serious with Him, bow and let Him show us what He is aware of deep inside us…I for one am glad He has alowed me more time to receive knowledge of myself (as He sees me). I can repent and receive His strength to overcome. AND have more time to praise Him! Still I long for the day when I get to go home with Him.
