There's A Storm

Night before last, a quick thunderstorm popped up north of our house.
The distant thunder and flashes of lightning awakened me around 1am.
I went outside and could see stars over me and the huge cloud covered in lightning to the north.
I returned to bed and tried to go back to sleep but I was too awake so I got back up.
Around 230 the storm was over us.
A strike of lightning and an ear-splitting crack even woke up Linda.
I haven’t seen wind that hard since Hurricane Rita.
In a matter of moments the back yard was flooded and one big puddle.
As quickly as it started it ended.
Linda went back to bed but I was too wired.
Just about any storm will bring me out of a sound sleep to get up and investigate.
It’s not that I’m afraid of a storm; I just like to watch the lightning and the Weather Channel to see what it’s doing.
Our Lord is far different from me.
It’s written, and suddenly a great tempest arose on the sea, so that the boat was covered with the waves. But He was asleep. Matt 8:24
He slept through the storm!
While the disciples were rowing, bailing, and struggling against the wind and waves, Jesus was fast asleep in the ship.
There are many others that can sleep right through the wind, rain, and lightning.
My youngest daughter was in the same house with us when Hurricane Rita blew in at 2am those many years ago.
Despite losing the electricity; despite the pounding wind and rain, she kept on sleeping.
You may be the same way.
And yet there may be problems and concerns (a storm) in your life it will keep you awake at night, tossing and turning like a ship at sea.
When you’re struggling, wake Jesus up, metaphorically speaking.
He can still do for you what He did for them; Then He arose and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, “Peace, be still!” And the wind ceased and there was a great calm. Mark 4:39
He wants peace in your life.
Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Phil 4:6-7
