When I First Met You

In my conversation with Van, he asked me how I met my wife, Linda.
I met Linda at church when I was 18 and she was 15. Once I got up the nerve I’d call her and visit her at her house.
It went like that for 2 years since she wasn’t allowed to date until she was 17.
I told Van of our young off-again-on-again relationship for 3 years.
Then one day I was troubled over some problems I was facing and one of the ol’ church ladies turned me on to fasting and praying.
So I did for 3 days.
On day 2 I went up to the church youth volleyball game, like I always did on a Saturday night.
Linda was there and she came up to me and asked if we could talk.
So we hopped on my motorcycle, rode up the road a little way, and talked.
We kind of got back together but I knew at that moment that she was the God chosen one for me, though that wasn’t what I was fasting for.
We knew each other for 5 years before we got married.
It was another 4 years before our daughter Lindsey was born and 18 months later came Kimberly.
I wish today’s youth would take their time to develop a relationship with someone before getting married or involved sexually.
I still believe that you can pray and fast for a wife or husband.
Genesis 24 has a wonderful story of the search for Isaac’s wife.
Abraham sends his chief servant to get a wife for his son.
The servant asks God to bless him in the endeavor; even to the point of what the right woman would say to him.
It happened just that way! God was in it!
Even the woman’s dad and brother could not argue against it.
Then Laban and Bethuel answered and said, “The thing comes from the LORD; we cannot speak to you either bad or good. Here is Rebekah before you; take her and go, and let her be your master’s son’s wife, as the LORD has spoken.” Gen 24:50-51
The youth of today need to know to be patient and wait on God!
Don’t settle for someone you can live with; find someone you can’t live without.
Fast, pray, and ask God’s direction in this area of life.
He will answer!

  1. Absolutely love the picture. Your’s is a stroy of Christian youth. To few of those. Fasting & prayer is a good way to enter into any desired thing.
