Judge Not!

Judge not… Matt 7:1
How many times has that verse been quoted to you, even by non-Christians.
Tell someone they’re doing wrong and “Judge not!”
But is “Judge not” the whole truth or have we been duped into believing “Judge not”?
Even those that say it use judgment every day.
They don’t do business at that store because they don’t have the best deals; judgment!
They don’t speak to someone because they are pushy; judgment!
They don’t vote for someone because they don’t agree with their political views; judgment!
It seems the ones that scream “Judge not” are more guilty of it than anyone else.
I have been told by others that I am judgmental! Aren’t others judging me by saying I’m judgmental? I think that’s hypocrisy or an oxymoron! Then again, maybe I’m just judging them!
Now let’s take the whole scripture in context.
Please take time to read it carefully!
Judge not, that you be not judged. For with what judgment you judge, you will be judged; and with the measure you use, it will be measured back to you. And why do you look at the speck in your brother’s eye, but do not consider the plank in your own eye? Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me remove the speck from your eye’; and look, a plank is in your own eye? Hypocrite! First remove the plank from your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye. Matt 7:1-5
Notice that’s there’s more to it than “Judge not”.
It tells us that you will be judged by the same standards that you judge others.
But read on!
It says that if you remove the plank from your eye (judge yourself) then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye (judge him/her).
How about these scriptures?
Is anyone going to quote them?
Let two or three prophets speak, and let the others judge. 1 Cor 14:29
I speak as to wise men; judge for yourselves what I say. 1 Cor 10:15
Do you not know that the saints will judge the world? And if the world will be judged by you, are you unworthy to judge the smallest matters? Do you not know that we shall judge angels? How much more, things that pertain to this life? 1 Cor 6:2-3
Regardless of those excellent verses, judgment must have a beginning!
I’ll look at that next time!

  1. You make a good point. “Judgment” can mean anything from the discernment we use when we look both ways before crossing a street, to harshly condemning someone over a minor difference of opinion. So, if you isolate the phrase “Judge not” from its context, you end up forbidding any decision-making at all!

  2. TO JUDGE IS TO SIMPLE DECERN BETWEEN RIGHT AND WRONG ! IF WE# CAN,T DECERN BETWEEN RIGHT AND WRONG , WE JUST GO AROUND GROPPING IN THE DARKNES AND MAKING WRONG DECISSIONS ! THERE IS A DIFFERANCE BETWEEN JUDGEING AND CONDEMING>
