No More Name!

Her part is now missing!

A friend of mine, Doris, was visiting her parents gravesite the other day when she came upon a man in the cemetery that was chiseling off his wife’s side of the headstone; something about being mad at her.
Linda and I hot-footed it down to the cemetery after work to see this sight.
My imagination conjured up a vision of a headstone with his name on it and her’s marred beyond repair; perhaps there would be huge gaping holes in the granite.
Upon our arrival we searched the cemetery very throuroughly in vain.
There was no chiseled name on a headstone.
Doris sent me a picture and it was then that I realized my mistake; he hadn’t chiseled her name away, he took the whole headstone.
There is no trace of who she is; no record of a name, a birthdate, or time of death.
It’s been totally removed.
That brings me to the subject of the Book of Life.
For years I believed that if you accepted Jesus as your Savior, then your name was written in the Book; And anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire. Rev 20:15
I have since come to realize that everyone that is born is written in the Book of Life, hence the name.
But dying without Jesus will get your name blotted out, as if it never existed.
Moses knew this and put his own salvation on the line; Then Moses returned to the LORD and said, “Oh, these people have committed a great sin, and have made for themselves a god of gold! Yet now, if You will forgive their sin — but if not, I pray, blot me out of Your book which You have written.” Ex 32:31-32
The Lord God said to Moses, “Whoever has sinned against Me, I will blot him out of My book.” Ex 32:33
Jesus revealed to us this; He who overcomes shall be clothed in white garments, and I will not blot out his name from the Book of Life; but I will confess his name before My Father and before His angels. Rev 3:5
So even if someone comes along and removes your headstone; or if you lie in an unmarked grave, rest assure that if you know Jesus as Savior your name is written in the Lamb’s Book of Life where it will not be blotted out.

  1. With each oppertunity to witness of the love of Christ I wonder if I’ve done enough. One sister mourning her son for five years as though he had died yesterday. Time and prayer with her brought the Spirit of God into her being. The Holy Spirit freed her. Her daughter asked for prayer as my name was called out to hurry, people where waiting on me. I speedly listened and prayed, but… I have a concern, and I don’t want to hear my Lord say, You could have done better. All people need time, someone to listen, to pray for them. Thank God those I was with understand. Thank God a seed size faith will get them access to the throne of grace. His Word is full of asurances. Though we may feel alone there is one that sticks closer than a brother. His love is unfailing!
