I recently saw a news story about a pastor in New Jersey that wanted all of the married members of his congregation to cancel their Facebook accounts.
The reason is because 20 couples among the 1,100 members of his church have run into marital trouble over the last six months after a spouse connected with an ex-flame over Facebook.
On a past Sunday he has offered to step down over a past affair that involved a three-way sexual relationship with his wife and a male church assistant.
This relationship happened over 10 years ago and did not involve Facebook.
It surfaced when he confirmed a report in a local newspaper, which cited testimony he gave in a criminal case in 2003.
The relationship had ended by that time.
He has offered to resign.
The pastor and wife planted the seed for the church in 1987, so he would have been pastor at that time.
This only shows us once again how sin affects all of us.
No one is above the reach of sin.
What a great Savior we have to forgive us of sin; if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin. If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us. 1 John 1:7-10
This does not give anyone the right or freedom to sin.
God gives a strict warning against sinning willfully; if we sin willfully after we have received the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins. Heb 10:26
The best way to prevent sin’s grasp on you is to submission to God everyday!
Submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. James 4:7-8
