The Elders Are Leaving

They shall still bear fruit in old age; They shall be fresh and flourishing, To declare that the LORD is upright; Ps 92:14-15
We lost another pillar of our community.
She was the oldest living member of Attoyac Baptist, the church I grew up in.
Cornelia Holloway was 92.
She is survived by 4 of her 6 children, 18 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, and 7 great-great-grandchildren.
Linda and I were talking about the elderly in the community and who is left.
We counted off about 3 more that are in their 80’s.
“Soon the elderly of the community will be your mom and dad. Then the day will come when it will be us!” I said.
We began to think back to those times that seem distant and yet at the same time, not that long ago.
We thought about the elders that taught us well in the ways of Christ.
Sunday school teachers, deacons, and elders all guided us in scripture and it’s every day application.
These weren’t super-Christians, but normal good folk that loved God and wanted to bring the youth up in a moral and virtuous way.
I only hope that when my time comes that some youngster will look back and say, “I remember what Pastor Tim taught me!”
And to the youth I say, your time is coming sooner than you think!
