I’ve been reading in Deuteronomy and have really gotten into it.
As I was reading last night I came upon this scripture: “When you come to the land which the LORD your God is giving you, and possess it and dwell in it, and say, ‘I will set a king over me like all the nations that are around me,’ you shall surely set a king over you whom the LORD your God chooses; one from among your brethren you shall set as king over you; you may not set a foreigner over you, who is not your brother. But he shall not multiply horses for himself, nor cause the people to return to Egypt to multiply horses, for the LORD has said to you, ‘You shall not return that way again.’ Neither shall he multiply wives for himself, lest his heart turn away; nor shall he greatly multiply silver and gold for himself. Deut 17:14-17
I see the fault of the US in this scripture.
The leader of the nation shall not multiply horses for himself; nor shall he greatly multiply silver and gold for himself.
You and I have both witnessed how our leaders have got into office only to make a great name for themselves and to make themselves very financially secure.
You shall surely set a king over you whom the LORD your God chooses.
This one is our fault. There are too many people voting party, economics, or social issues rather than by prayer. Before any election, you should unhinge your mind from politics and connect it rather to God’s will through prayer. It may be that God has you vote for the very person you were going to anyway.
One from among your brethren you shall set as king over you; you may not set a foreigner over you.
This is one we did get right. By our Constitution we elect a natural born citizen of the United States of America.
No doubt you have heard the many rumors and accusations against President Obama on this very issue.
It could be easily settled if he would just produce his birth certificate; it would be end of discussion.
This next part is where we have failed the most.
“Also it shall be, when he sits on the throne of his kingdom, that he shall write for himself a copy of this law in a book, from the one before the priests, the Levites. And it shall be with him, and he shall read it all the days of his life, that he may learn to fear the LORD his God and be careful to observe all the words of this law and these statutes, that his heart may not be lifted above his brethren, that he may not turn aside from the commandment to the right hand or to the left, and that he may prolong his days in his kingdom, he and his children in the midst of Israel. Deut 17:18-20
We have often handed our nation over to those that make no proclamation of God; or we elected those that proclaim God but don’t live by it.
Pray for our nation!
