Do You Prophesy?

And a young man ran and told Moses, and said, “Eldad and Medad are prophesying in the camp.”
So Joshua the son of Nun, Moses’ assistant, one of his choice men, answered and said, “Moses my lord, forbid them!”
Then Moses said to him, “Are you zealous for my sake? Oh, that all the LORD’s people were prophets and that the LORD would put His Spirit upon them!” Num 11:27-30
Do you prophesy?
Most of the time when you think of prophesy you think about someone telling the future.
I remember my professor at Bible college saying that prophesy had two purposes: “foretelling” and “for telling”.
It’s not the future that you should be so concerned about but the present.
When you speak God’s word you become a prophet of that word.
A prophet was one that told everyone what God had said.
That’s the purpose of every Christian; to tell what God has said!
Many don’t because they have no idea what He has said.
Sadly they never read the Bible.
Paul said, “Pursue love, and desire spiritual gifts, but especially that you may prophesy.” 1 Cor 14:1
And if all prophesy, and an unbeliever or an uninformed person comes in, he is convinced by all, he is convicted by all. And thus the secrets of his heart are revealed; and so, falling down on his face, he will worship God and report that God is truly among you. 1 Cor 14:24-25
You can easily get caught up in the other gifts of the Spirit.
If someone is healing, then everyone will be lining up to be healed.
That’s not a bad thing but having a physical healing and not a spiritual healing isn’t much good.
Prophesy has the ability to convict those that hear it; he who prophesies speaks edification and exhortation and comfort to men. He who speaks in a tongue edifies himself, but he who prophesies edifies the church. I wish you all spoke with tongues, but even more that you prophesied; for he who prophesies is greater than he who speaks with tongues, unless indeed he interprets, that the church may receive edification. 1 Cor 14:3-5
I have no problem with other gifts of the Spirit but as Moses said, “Oh, that all the LORD’s people were prophets and that the LORD would put His Spirit upon them!”

One thought on “Do You Prophesy?

  1. You’re right. Even though some don’t go to church their still hungry for God. I’m always amazed at peoples responce to learning of Gods love for them. Just telling them of the Word in smiple terms gets an amazed responce. Yes understanding the scripture is difficult, but don’t give up. Asking God to help is opening a relationship with Him. He is willing.
