A Year Has Gone

To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD. Luke 4:19
It’s been a year since the Gulf oil disaster.
A year!
Where did time go?
We’ve all made a full circle around the sun again.
We’ve traveled through 4 seasons again.
We’ve seen 52 weeks, 365-days, 8760-hours, 525,600-minutes!
Someone was born in that time and started the journey; someone died in that time and the journey came to an end.
It has been a year of laughter, a year of tears; happiness, sadness, marriage, divorce, war, more disasters, joy, praises, and curses.
When the newscaster reported that it had been a year since the Gulf oil disaster, I began to think what have I done in that year.
I got older, I saw an old friend from high school, I loved my wife, children, and grandchildren.
I went to work every day with the exception of scheduled holidays, vacations, and weekends.
I’ve done a year’s worth of praying; a year’s worth of preaching; a year’s worth of singing.
For the most part, I’ve been happy and satisfied over the past year but there is always room for improvement.
My beginning scripture gives an insight into what Jesus planned for His year;
“The Spirit of the LORD is upon Me,
Because He has anointed Me
To preach the gospel to the poor;
He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted,
To proclaim liberty to the captives
And recovery of sight to the blind,
To set at liberty those who are oppressed;
To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD.” Luke 4:18-19
I lived and loved my Savior over the past year but I’m sure there is room for improvement there too!
