Jogging The Memory

For about 3 weeks now I’ve notice a new teller at the bank.
Since she’s new, she’s the one that gets to stay late while the senior tellers go home early.
I should know her but I can’t put my finger on it.
Perhaps when I was pastoring in Etoile she was a little girl that came to church and now that she’s grown I don’t really recognize her.
Every time I go to the bank I wrack my brain trying to remember who she is.
Then one day on the way home I see a familiar vehicle pulling this barbecue pit and it hits me like a bolt of lightning; it’s the bbq man’s daughter.
He once catered a Sunday lunch at church and had his wife and her with him; that’s where I saw her!
So yesterday I drove through the bank to make a deposit and told her the story.
She informs me that she knew me from somewhere and only when I made a church deposit did she put 2 and 2 together.
Isn’t it amazing what it takes to jog the memory?
There are probably many things you’ve learned throughout your life in Sunday school, Vacation Bible School, church camp, through sermons, and your own personal Bible study.
How much of that do you remember?
I think you remember all of it; you just have to have your memory jogged a bit!
This is why Peter said, “This is my second letter to you, dear friends, and in both of them I have tried to stimulate your wholesome thinking and refresh your memory. I want you to remember and understand what the holy prophets said long ago and what our Lord and Savior commanded through your apostles.” 2 Peter 3:1-2 NLT
Peter’s letter was written to jog the memory of the church.
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve sat in church and had a preacher say, “Remember when Jesus went to…” and while he’s telling the story I remember the whole story!
If you read your Bible every day, then your memory will be strengthened in the knowledge and wisdom of God.
Many other writers also wrote about remembering!
It is to your advantage to try!

  1. The Word tells us to not forsake the assambling of our selves together as some. God’s Word has many fasits. I one I’ve realy got hold on is that I gain knowledge, strength, suport, love, remenberance of the Word when I’m with other saints. Maybe the need to be joged is way we say my life is a rollercoster.
