Have you ever been discouraged?
Perhaps you set a goal but didn’t meet it.
Maybe you think you deserved something that was given to someone else.
You try to lose weight but the pounds just don’t seem to fall off.
Discouragement comes as a result of comparison.
In 2 Chronicles the Spirit of the Lord came upon this one individual; He said, “Listen, King Jehoshaphat! Listen, all you people of Judah and Jerusalem! This is what the LORD says: Do not be afraid! Don’t be discouraged by this mighty army, for the battle is not yours, but God’s. 2 Chron 20:15 NLT
It’s easy to become discouraged, in this case, when you compare your small army and weapons with the massive amount of the opposition.
David said, “My heart is breaking as I remember how it used to be: I walked among the crowds of worshipers, leading a great procession to the house of God, singing for joy and giving thanks — it was the sound of a great celebration! Why am I discouraged?” Ps 42:4-5 NLT
He’s discouraged because he is comparing a former time of worshipping and rejoicing to the dismal time he is living in.
What is the solution?
I will put my hope in God! I will praise him again — my Savior and my God! Psalm 42:5-6 NLT
To keep from being discouraged means you will have to stop comparisons and keep pushing yourself forward.
A look at how to do that next time!
