“Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’” Matt 7:21-23
If you are a student of the Bible, then I am sure you are familiar with this scripture.
Perhaps, like me, you use it as a reference for those pseudo-Christians that will stand before God in judgment.
But recently I was reminded of the importance of that word for today.
Since it will be true that many will say, “Lord, Lord” on that judgment day, then it stands to reason that there are many saying it today.
I have had men and women come to church and tell me about the ministry that God has given them.
Yet I never see any ministry from them.
Some others can quote scripture, pray, and speak Christian talk; but their life doesn’t reflect Christ.
If I mentioned names, there are those that you would recognize that speak great swelling words that are totally contradictory to God’s word.
I recall a particular TV program and magazine, both wonderfully produced but both full of error so cleverly worded as to make the reader believe it was the truth.
And there lies the problem – the truth.
As Paul asked in Gal 3:1, “O foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you that you should not obey the truth?”
What happened in Galatia was a twisting of the Gospel; and yet it sounded so believable.
I marvel that you are turning away so soon from Him who called you in the grace of Christ, to a different gospel, which is not another; but there are some who trouble you and want to pervert the gospel of Christ. Gal 1:6-7
These that “trouble you” are the type that shout, “Lord, Lord!”
If they’ll shout “Lord, Lord” before Jesus, then they will also shout it before you to get your love and trust.
Beware of such!
Read God’s word and know the truth that is reflected in the lives of those that speak the truth!
