A Bonnet, a Boot, and a Misunderstanding

I like to listen to XM Bookradio while I’m driving to work in the mornings.
Yesterday morning I was listening to a book that was written by a British author.
I know this because of some terms used for parts of an automobile like bonnet and boot which is the hood and trunk.
There was one other term that confused me for just a moment.
A detective asked if a victim had any money on her.
Another detective reached into a desk and pulled out a bag with notes.
My first thought was the victim had a bunch of post it notes or something on her person.
Then it was revealed that most of the notes were fifty’s.
I understood that a note was a bill.
Now this difference in language is between two nations that supposedly speak the same language.
I wonder how different people perceive others things like salvation.
If someone asks me if I know Jesus as my Savior, I will say that I do.
I base that on scripture; Rom 10:9-10 – if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
But there are some that would say yes and cite their reason as going to church or baptism.
Someone else may just say they’ve never done anything really bad.
Christian’s must break through the language barrier and make sure the message is clear.
Rom 3:23 – All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
Rom 5:6-8 – For when we were still without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. For scarcely for a righteous man will one die; yet perhaps for a good man someone would even dare to die. But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
Ask someone if they are going to heaven and they may also say they are.
But make no mistake; the words of Jesus in John 14:6 are crystal clear, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.”
The church cannot allow a bonnet, boot, and note misunderstanding keep someone from the forgiveness of sin and eternal life.

One thought on “A Bonnet, a Boot, and a Misunderstanding

  1. Yes…misunderstandings upon misunderstandings. O Lord I pray for the laborers that they be enlightened as they read Your Word. In that momment when they are needed the Living Water may flow freely. For they are much needed in the market place, in the waitting roorms, in the parking lots. There is always someone desiring to hear Your Truth. Bless the laborers with an awareness of Your presence, and a boldness, fearlessness to reveal Your Word even in the ears of many (a public place). Your true loborers are shameless and unafraid of what man can do. Bless their loved one that they to be fearless and supportive. HALLELUJAH our God reigns! JESUS to You O Lord we bow and willingly confess You are LORD !
