Deer season! Dear me!

I notice more people wearing camouflage the past few days and stocking up on snacks, drinks, and deer corn.
It can only indicate one thing; deer season is here again.
I have also witnessed many cases of beer being purchased by the same people.
I don’t think I’ll be taking any walks in the woods while alcohol induced men and women are toting ordnance.
The sound of 4-wheelers can be heard going up and down the dirt roads of East Texas and trucks pulling trailers loaded with ice chest and 4-wheelers keep traveling into the area.
Soon the local newspaper will be filled with pictures of the hunters taking a proud stance next to their prize.
I have nothing against deer hunting although I don’t personally hunt.
Truth is, I get a kick out of seeing so many people get so excited and gung-ho over this time of year.
It would be awesome if we got such a kick out of God.
It is written in God’s word as the deer pants for the water brooks, so pants my soul for You, O God. Ps. 42:1
If Christians put as much effort into telling others about Jesus, worshipping and praising the Lord as they do deer hunting, then we would see a change in our world.
If we would ready ourselves for church service like we ready ourselves for camping and hunting, then we would have more enjoyment in and a desire to go to church.
If we would prepare ourselves with Bible reading and studying as much as we do sighting in our rifles, then we would always be on target in our relationship with God and others.
If we would entice the lost to God’s house, like we entice the deer to a feeder, then we would see salvation in our communities.
If we would quit hunting from church to church and stay put, like we sit in our deer stand, then we would really see a big move of the Holy Spirit.
Again, I have no problem with hunting and hobbies but just believe we should put a little more effort into preparing for Jesus’ return; to be “The voice of one crying in the wilderness: ‘Prepare the way of the LORD; Make His paths straight.’ Matt 3:3
It’s only fitting since Jesus said, “I go to prepare a place for you.” John 14:2

  1. Some of us do our “dear” hunting in Walmart. I asked the Lord who He wanted me to speak to while I was shoping. First sighting…a brother sitting surrounded with carts. He was hoping someone would give him a ride home [ I did ]. Second, I spotted a lady, puzzled by what she was reading on the back of a box. She didn’t know how to add the carbs & sugar, and what to do with the fiber number. I helped her. With both Jesus was up lifted & praised. I was twice blessed. I got two “dear”!

  2. Woah! I’m really enjoying the template/theme of this website. It’s simple, yet effective.

A lot of times it’s very hard to get that “perfect balance” between superb usability and visual appeal. I must say you have done a superb job with this. Additionally, the blog loads super fast for me on Chrome. Outstanding Blog!
