2012 – The Hype and the Hope

The end of time is on the mind of quite a few people.
This is a very recent Facebook status: “By everything that is happening in this world these days, I believe the world is coming to an end soon, just my personal belief!! The good Lord is coming.”
It was followed up with this comment:
“The world has turned into such a crazy place….I’ll be surprised if we are still alive by Dec 22 but who knows really…”
There has been much hype about 2012 through media and doomsday movies.
It’s funny that an event that is going to actually take place, the return of Jesus, is scoffed at by everyone when someone announces His return date, though I scoff too mostly at the date not the fact that he’ll return.
However when someone says something about 2012 and the end of the world it’s almost taken as the gospel.
When would you expect Jesus to return? Probably when things are at their worst, like is predicted for the coming year.
It is written in 1 Thess 5:2-5, which follows the passage about Jesus returning in the air, for you know quite well that the day of the Lord will come unexpectedly, like a thief in the night. When people are saying, “All is well; everything is peaceful and secure,” then disaster will fall upon them as suddenly as a woman’s birth pains begin when her child is about to be born. And there will be no escape.
But you aren’t in the dark about these things, dear brothers and sisters, and you won’t be surprised when the day of the Lord comes like a thief. For you are all children of the light and of the day; we don’t belong to darkness and night. NLT
The destruction comes when the people were saying “everything is peaceful and secure.”
Most don’t expect the “end of the world” when things are going so well.
For those that are looking for His return, we should not be caught in the “darkness” of surprise.
Could Jesus return this year? I believe He could and, if you have followed my teaching and belief, you know that I’m a believer of the fulfillment of Jewish Feasts and look for His return to also fulfill one of the three remaining.
The responsibility of the Christian is to be a voice shouting in the wilderness, “Prepare a straight pathway for the Lord’s coming!” John 1:23 NLT
2012 comes with a lot of hype about the end; but it also comes with Hope!
We can use 2012 as an opportunity to engage others with the salvation message.
It is our opportunity to “prepare” them for the return of the Lord.
How do you get yourself ready?
Read God’s word; get it into your mind and heart.
Pray for those individuals that may be inquiring of you; and ask the Holy Spirit for guidance.
Open your mouth and speak the blessing of the Lord.

  1. I’m ready! So ready I don’t take time to beat around the bush with people. I ask point blank, “have you accepted Christ as your personal Savour?” I have learned most people that have not have a hard time understanding my way of thinking. If I know from the begining their still in the dark , I’ll speak the Word more gentaly.

  2. One of my favorite songs, is of course, “We’ll be going home” Andre Crouch. “Count the years as months, count the months as weeks, count the weeks as days,(any day now) we’ll be going home. There was a book, which I can’t remember the title, where one of the main characters had a sign on his desk which read,”Today? perhaps.”
