Change I Don’t Like – Change I Do Like

Last night I was thinking about all the changes around me.
I’ve settled down and have lived in the same house for 29 years and have been married to my wife for 32 years.
In that time I’ve had 2 different jobs in that time; the phone company for 15 years and my current one at the radio station for the past 17 years.
I have pastored 3 churches in that time; one for 7 months, one for 6 years, and my current pastorate for the past 11 years.
You can tell I don’t like a lot of change and most of it that affects me comes from others.
My children grew up, married, moved out, and had children; my grandparents and dad died; I’ve had church members come and go, and co-workers have come and gone.
There were those I was close to that moved away or got a divorce.
I don’t like a lot of change; it makes me sad.
However, there is one change I don’t mind seeing in others around me and that’s the change of heart and spirit.
It’s a change when an individual gives their heart to Jesus.
It is a change of heart produced by God’s Spirit. And a person with a changed heart seeks praise from God, not from people. Rom 2:29
Though some make a profession of accepting Jesus as Savior, sometimes I don’t see any real change in their life; it’s business as usual.
I must admit, there have been times when I did not allow God to change me as much as He wants to but there is a scripture that I found encouraging to me.
I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him. Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect. Rom 12:1-2
I know that many of the changes that others have done that affected me was a better change for them.
I cannot argue against children growing up and moving off to get a better education.
Or getting married to someone they’re deeply in love with and starting their own family.
It’s hard to argue against those that feel God leading them into their own ministry and way from church.
In a world full of constant change, you may wonder if there is anything that is secure and exempt from change.
There is! It is God and how He feels toward you; how He will not change His mind about giving you salvation through the Lord Jesus.
God also bound himself with an oath, so that those who received the promise could be perfectly sure that he would never change his mind. Heb 6:17
Aren’t you glad there is One you can count on!

  1. Experiencing God’s unchanging love of the years deepens my faith & antisapation of being with Him in eternity. Here, in this life, learning of God is the most awesome thing. He shares Himself with me. To know that He sings over me. His thoughts of me are only good even though I may have been dissobedient. Truely who can be against me.

  4. i spoke about change on my show yesterday.. I have a season ending and another one starting. And at this point, between seasons, i am having feelings of being lonely, sad, selfish..etc. I am taking myself back to the season when my girls were little.. Last sunday night it hit me at a fine arts meeting My son in law of over a year introduced my daughter Jennah as his wife.. and it hit me.. i miss that season of them being little.. They (Jennah & Randy) just moved into their own apartment and my youngest Haley turned 17 all at the same time.. Last sunday God also showed me that he has given me everything i have ever asked for wanted and needed. I enjoyed reading your seasons Tim. The season that is ending for me is long overdue, i have learned ALOT through this season and am preparing for my new season of happily ever after…. 🙂 This scripture you posted is just another reminder… that he only has good plans for us..
