Intimacy – Part 2 (Looking for a Loophole)

I remember some 35 years ago a Christian man telling me that it was okay for him and his fiancé to engage in physical intimacy. In fact, he had scripture to back him up.
I asked him, “What scripture?”
Back then all we used was the King James Version and this is the scripture he had found; Ex 22:16 – if a man entice a maid that is not betrothed, and lie with her, he shall surely endow her to be his wife. KJV
His reasoning was since he was going to marry her anyway, then premarital intimacy was okay.
I told him that he cannot base his actions on just one verse when there are more that need to also be taken into consideration.
Even the original verse, Gen 2:24 – Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh; it definitely says man and his wife, not man and his fiancé.
It’s funny how many will make the Bible say what they want it to mean to justify sin.
I know that there are some that will tell me to mind my own business; that I’m meddling in private affairs and what a couple does in private or their own home is off limits.
True, provided it is a husband and wife according to what the Bible says.
I am not trying to be the intimacy police but I think Christian’s owe it to God to live in a way that is pleasing to Him and I don’t think premarital physical intimacy is it.
Again, you can tell me to mind my own business but are we not to look out for each other, help each other, and hold each other accountable; especially in the church?
If those that claim to be Christian won’t follow the precepts of God’s word then how can we expect those that don’t know Jesus as Savior to give their hearts to Him?
For the time has come for judgment, and it must begin with God’s household. 1 Peter 4:17
You may say there are examples of men and women in the Bible that did the same. Is it right to justify sinful actions with the sinful actions of someone else?
There are some that say, “I am free [in Christ] to do anything!”
So let us look at that next time.

  1. Excuse me. Your bussiness, my bussiness is to worship Christ, to have the mind of Christ in us while living here on this earth. He, Christ, did what He saw the Father do. Christ “worked” on the Sabath healing the children of God, & people butted into His bussiness telling Him He was doing things wrong. Christ tells us if we see a brother falling, entering into sin, we are to talk with him..get envolved. Or else be in disobedance to Christ. It is the pain of wrong doing that makes someone complain about their bussiness being butted into. God have mecy on us all. We need it!
