O, Say Can You See…Jesus

There was once a man sent to secure the release of a prisoner-of-war. He was successful but could not escort the man home until the enemy had ended an attack against an American fort.
During the night, there had been only occasional sounds of the fort’s guns returning fire.
At dawn, the British bombardment tapered off. Placing a telescope to his eye, he trained it on the fort’s flagpole where he saw a large flag catch the morning breeze.
Thrilled by the sight of the flag and the knowledge that the fort had not fallen, he took a letter from his pocket, and began to write some verses on the back.
It was September 17, 1814 and the man was Francis Scott Key. Both the new song and the flag became known as “The Star-Spangled Banner.”
There was another Man also sent to secure the release of prisoners. He spent His time traveling from place to place, healing, preaching, casting out demons, and telling about God’s love and forgiveness.
For this He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities. Isaiah 53:5
When they had come to the place called Calvary, there they crucified Him, and the criminals, one on the right hand and the other on the left. Luke 23:33
His name was Jesus. He had said, “If I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all peoples to Myself.” John 12:32
Jesus is a Banner to us. As thrilled, as Francis Scott Key was to see that “Star Spangled Banner”, I was more thrilled to see Jesus giving His life for me, that I may have eternal life. I asked His forgiveness of my sin and accepted His redemption.
He is a Banner, lifted high for all to see.
Come, run to the Banner of the Lord.
And in that day there shall be a Root of Jesse, Who shall stand as a banner to the people; For the Gentiles shall seek Him and His resting place shall be glorious. Isaiah 11:10
