Planting a seed – Part 2

Last Saturday the mail arrived with 2 envelopes addressed to the church.
In one was a check for $100; the other had six $1 bills and the signatures of 8 people.
I was curious about that until I was told it’s “seed” money – it is sown in faith to produce a hundredfold or a hundred times more based on Mark 4:20And the seed that fell on good soil represents those who hear and accept God’s word and produce a harvest of thirty, sixty, or even a hundred times as much as had been planted!
The purpose is like a seed you plant in the ground and it springs up to a plant that produces more seed; not just one more but many more!
Some of this seed can be used for food; some for replanting next year to grow another crop.
I took these 6 bills and taped them on a basket and set it on the altar at the church last Sunday.
I explained all of the events to the church.
Though I did not actively pursue or persuade anyone to put anything in the basket, at the end of the service there was over $800 in it!
Those 6 dollar bills encouraged others to give more than a hundred times!
It is a faith builder to me and such a blessing to our church.
For me, someone that does not like to ask for money, it is a lesson to ask; James 4:2 – You do not have because you do not ask.
This principle is not just one for the church; it’s one for all of us personally, whether it’s sowing into a ministry or into the life of another individual.
For God is the one who provides seed for the farmer and then bread to eat. In the same way, he will provide and increase your resources and then produce a great harvest of generosity in you.
Yes, you will be enriched in every way so that you can always be generous. And when we take your gifts to those who need them, they will thank God. So two good things will result from this ministry of giving—the needs of the believers in Jerusalem will be met, and they will joyfully express their thanks to God. 2 Cor 9:10-12
When it comes to planting a seed of faith there is something more important than air conditioning.
It’s more important than your personal finances or family prosperity.
What is it?
I’ll share that next time!

  1. Planting seeds. I was given scraps of faberic over the years. (I love to sew) Well, the pile has been growing. So, I decided to through them away. Then a long distant ex-step grandaughter notifed me. She’s expecting her first child & would I make a quilt for her baby. Well, NO! I’m throughing that stuff out. Then the Lord started reminding me, when you know to do good & do it not you’ve sinned. I don’t willfully want to do that. I had to spend money to finish it, but I did. I prayed over it & blessed it & have accpectations of the Spirit working in that babys life. Seeds… I am so glad seeds come in other forms.
