Washed!

Then the LORD said to Moses, “Go to the people and consecrate them today and tomorrow, and let them wash their clothes.” Ex 19:10
Think of how difficult it was to wash clothes back then. You can moan, groan, and complain but you have it made today compared to the standards of 1000 years ago or even 100 years ago.
We have an electric washer and dryer and can use them no matter the weather.
It was far different with my grandparents; they didn’t have electricity so they had no washer or dryer.
I’ve heard stories about how they took the clothing to the creek and washed. Can you imagine hand washing all your clothes?
Our household has several loads of clothes every week. When the children were young it was a load every day.
We just sort, put them in the washer, and go about our business. When the washer sounds it’s “I’m done now” alarm, we transfer the clean clothes to the dryer and continue going about our business.
The only way people used to dry them was hang them in the sun and wind, which took a bit longer than the twenty or thirty minutes it takes today.
We are blessed to be able to wash and clean so many things, not just clothing.
Through out the Books of the Law there are over thirty instances where a person was required to wash their clothes to be clean.
It was no small feat for someone that didn’t have a washer and dryer.
You touch something that is unclean and you have to beat your clothes on a rock to be clean. Tomorrow you touch something again and you have to beat your clothes again.
And remember you have to hang them out to dry.
Either you’re going to try and remain clean or you’ll give up on the Law of God finding its demands to difficult. This is why so many would rather be dirty.
But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God. 1 Cor 6:11
And the armies in heaven, clothed in fine linen, white and clean, followed Him on white horses. Rev 19:14
It is a great relief God has given through His mercy and grace. It appears that our Savior has taken over our laundry and washed it for us.

  1. amen, I am truly blessed, as are you, that He has cleansed us in His own blood.
Back in the Day, people didn’t have quite as many clothes as we did, they would be lucky to have ONE complete set of clothing! Didnt take long to was and dry one set of clothing.
