Remembering

My dad died almost a year ago. Yesterday I received the news that the only surviving sibling, my Uncle Fridolph, passed away.
He was one of nine children born to Charlie and Victoria Swanson.
I can’t help but be a little saddened as this side of the family has dwindled down to “us” cousins!
What I remember about Uncle Fridolph is his work in the Boy Scouts. Though I was quite young, I remember he was like a mega-Scout Leader, at least in my eyes.
I remember going on a vacation with Uncle Fridolph and Aunt Joann to Colorado; of course my mom and dad also went.
One evening we were all gathered around the campfire having a buffet of rainbow trout. I began playing with a little train set that mom and dad bought me at a souvenir shop. Uncle Fridolph took the box and made a bridge across a “gorge” for me. He then stopped the train on the bridge and pulled out his comb and thumbed the bristles making a zippy-type sound. He told me we were fishing off the bridge and the sound of the comb was akin to a rod and reel.
It’s something I have always remembered.
Isn’t it funny what you remember about people when they’re gone?
Sometimes I think what will be remembered about me when my time arrives.
I hope I live as a Christian and not as an evil and wicked man.
In the book of Job it speaks of the wicked saying All memory of their existence will fade from the earth, no one will remember their names. Job 18:17
Wow! What an un-legacy to not remember!
However, it matters little how I remember others or how others will remember me. I am more concerned with how God remember me.
The Psalmist said this – Do not remember the rebellious sins of my youth. Remember me in the light of your unfailing love, Ps 25:7
God has promised this for all who come to Him through Jesus; I will forgive their wickedness, and I will never again remember their sins. Heb 8:12

One thought on “Remembering

  1. I am so relieved to know that once a life in placed in the Blood of Christ with repentance of sin God remembers the sin no more. Sence we’ve been told to love one another cause what we do to fellow saints is like doing it to Christ, I’m sure He remembers those actions. Again though, missdeeds are forgiven & forgotten upon seeking His forgiveness. The right deeds, like that of your uncle, not only helped shape your life, but coused a riple effect. Children, & grands are effected for the good. May we not forget His love, His heart…JESUS & what He did & is doing for those who have trusted in Him.
