Family Reunion

The Hook Children in 1987-(left to right) Desi, Prentis, Curtis, Hazel, Alton, Versie, Vadis, Elvie, and Era

For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them. Matt 18:20
I got the email this morning reminding me that the Hook Reunion is Saturday.
Hook is my mother’s maiden name and so the name of my Grandfather’s family.
Grandpa was one of nine children and as far back as I can remember there has been a reunion of the family. In fact, I can remember when Grandpa Ed (my great-grandfather) was alive and attended along with all nine children.
Slowly the years have taken their toll and the original Hook children are all gone leaving [us] cousins.
When we gather this Saturday, we shall gather in the name and memory of the Hook family – a family that is dwindling down and away from the name. Should the Lord Jesus tarry His return, the future only holds distant memories of who the Hook’s were, with some never knowing or having a memory of Ed and his children.
Gathering in the Hook name is futile. Don’t get me wrong; I enjoy it and look forward to it but those that held us together, as a family, have deserted us for death.
When we gather at the Hook Reunion, I don’t feel the presence of grandpa or Uncle Curtis or Aunt Vadis. All we have are the memories or pictures that we can share with each other.
On Sunday I will attend another gathering; this time in the name of Jesus!
This gathering together is for One that overcame death and will never leave us!
On Sunday when we gather in the Name of Jesus, His Holy Spirit will be in our midst. We will sing praise and worship Him!
We shall speak of His grace and mercy!
We will encourage others to join His family of believers.
I want to stress the importance to you to join the Family Reunion that is gathering this Sunday near you!

  1. It is when we seek the heart of God that we are given more & more understanding of His hearts desire. The command to gather our selves together is not for God’s bennifit, rather our own. This is where we can see through the testomonies of others the power of God in ordinary situations. How percious is the knowledge that God will act on my personal behalf & in ways I can reconize. I have learned to expect & wait for God’s ways are perfect in time & preformance. Truely He is a ‘THE ONLY, GOOD GOD.”
