Can I help you find something?

Linda and I were caching with the grandkids on Monday, up near Lake Ray Roberts.
Before the big Texas mega-geocaching event, someone had placed well over 100 geocaches in the area, many of which are on the side of Farm-to-Market roads, so you have to find a place to park.
One such cache was across a pretty deep ditch so I decided to park on the side of another road that was nearby and not as heavily traveled. I pulled over, exited the truck, and walked the 200’ across to the cache.
As I made my way back to the truck, another pickup from the opposite direction pulled along side of me.
The man rolled down his window so I did the same.
“Can I help you find something?” he asked.
“No, thanks” I replied. “I’ve already found it!”
He waved and drove off.
Now I’m sure we weren’t talking about the same thing. He didn’t know that I was one of those crazed people that enjoy walking across roads, rocks, through underbrush, briars, and wetlands just to find a container and sign my name.
He probably thought I was looking for an address, a house, or something, but it was nice of him to ask.
There are so many other people also searching.
Their search is for some meaning to life; some fulfillment for themselves.
Perhaps they have dabbled in this or that and have come up empty still!
They may have even stepped into a church a time or two and perhaps did not find their answer.
There is a story of the disciples of John the Baptist, who told John about everything Jesus was doing. So John called for two of his disciples, and he sent them to the Lord to ask him, “Are you the Messiah we’ve been expecting, or should we keep looking for someone else?”
John’s two disciples found Jesus and said to him, “John the Baptist sent us to ask, ‘Are you the Messiah we’ve been expecting, or should we keep looking for someone else?’” Luke 7:18-20
Once you find Jesus, is there any other place to look?
What makes us think we can escape if we ignore this great salvation that was first announced by the Lord Jesus himself and then delivered to us by those who heard him speak? Heb 2:3
Sometimes maybe we just need to ask, “Can I help you find something? Can I help you find Jesus?”
The reason is obvious; there is salvation in no one else! God has given no other name under heaven by which we must be saved. Acts 4:12
So… can I help you find something?

  1. It’s true, a sermon lived is heard clearer that one preached. Only thing is it may go unreconized for a long time. But God tells us that His word will not return to Him void. There is so much I’d like to say, God also wants to say more than we could hear. So He has shone us through the love of His Son. And I can speak loud & clear when I allow His love to flow through me. Of course I’d like to hurry things. some times
I forget it has take me 35 years to get what I’ve got. Patience is the key.
