Chick-fil-A and Marriage

Don’t team up with those who are unbelievers. How can righteousness be a partner with wickedness? How can light live with darkness? 15 What harmony can there be between Christ and the devil? How can a believer be a partner with an unbeliever? 16 And what union can there be between God’s temple and idols? For we are the temple of the living God. 2 Cor 6:14-16
There is so much happening on the news, that it is difficult to pick a story.
Currently one of the hot topics is a radio interview with Chick-Fil-A owner.
The founder of the restaurant chain, Truett Cathy, built his life and business based on hard work, humility and biblical principles. Based on these principles, all of Chick-fil-A’s restaurants operate with a “Closed-on-Sunday” policy, without exception.
So there are some Biblical-based principles in the operation of Chick-fil-A.
Recently the president of the restaurant chain, Dan Cathy, had a radio interview and is now being called anti-gay, with many celebrities saying they will boycott the restaurant. Even Jim Henson And Company (the muppets) have pulled their support and will be giving it to GLAAD, a gay and lesbian organization.
But exactly what did Mr. Cathy say?

“I think we are inviting God’s judgment on our nation when we shake our fist at Him and say, ‘We know better than you as to what constitutes a marriage. I pray God’s mercy on our generation that has such a prideful, arrogant attitude to think that we have the audacity to define what marriage is about.”
Cathy explains that the company that his father created and the one that he now runs is possible because of family and the support that families offer.
“We are very much supportive of the family — the biblical definition of the family unit. We are a family-owned business, a family-led business, and we are married to our first wives. We give God thanks for that … We want to do anything we possibly can to strengthen families. We are very much committed to that,” Cathy said.

In response to the controversy, the company issued a statement saying that they will “treat every person with honor, dignity and respect — regardless of their belief, race, creed, sexual orientation or gender.”
They also say that Chick-fil-a intends to “leave the policy debate over same-sex marriage to the government and political arena”.
While his statements uphold the traditional Biblical view on marriage, not once did he say anything negative about homosexuality.
Governor Mike Huckabee started a Facebook page event on appreciating Chick-fil-A on Wednesday, August 1st.
That page was deleted by Facebook, without explanation. It just went missing!
However, I have just confirmed that the event for a same-sex “kiss in” at Chick-fil-A’s is still listed on Facebook.
The mayor of Boston has vowed to block the building of a Chick-fil-A in a popular tourist location.
The line is drawn and you will be on a side.
Remember we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places. Eph 6:12

  1. So true, this is a spiritual battle first, but is it not also a first amendment battle? …but who any more cares about that when they are dealing with Christians and our values?
