Today I’m not exactly sure what my thoughts are. A situation has been building in our family and came to fruition last night.
It’s not the way I wanted it; my hand was forced.
Yet, as I fasted and prayed I have to believe that God orchestrated everything.
I almost understand how Abraham felt when God said, “Take your son, your only son—yes, Isaac, whom you love so much—and go to the land of Moriah. Go and sacrifice him as a burnt offering on one of the mountains, which I will show you.” Gen 22:2
Imagine this being asked of you. If you are a follower of Christ, you can help but believe such a request would be followed by a great miracle.
I don’t see where Abraham hesitated in the least. The next morning Abraham got up early. He saddled his donkey and took two of his servants with him, along with his son, Isaac. Then he chopped wood for a fire for a burnt offering and set out for the place God had told him about. Gen 22:3-4
He did not hesitate when it came time for the actual act; when they arrived at the place where God had told him to go, Abraham built an altar and arranged the wood on it. Then he tied his son, Isaac, and laid him on the altar on top of the wood. And Abraham picked up the knife to kill his son as a sacrifice. Gen 22:9-10
God did not hesitate when it came to that point where faith and trust are rewarded with mercy and grace; At that moment the angel of the Lord called to him from heaven, “Abraham! Abraham!”
“Yes,” Abraham replied. “Here I am!”
“Don’t lay a hand on the boy!” the angel said. “Do not hurt him in any way, for now I know that you truly fear God. You have not withheld from me even your son, your only son.” Gen 22:11-12
And God provided for their need with a ram for the sacrifice.
Earlier in the week my thoughts were on the Prodigal son’s father. He, too, sacrificed his son by letting him leave home. His faith and trust were rewarded by mercy and grace when the son returned home to his father’s loving embrace.
I pray for my prodigal.
Years ago our prodigal returned with the knowledge that no matter how hard he tries he can not make it on his own. He has yet to see it is God that we rely on for our needs.

I too am praying for our prodigal. It becomes frustrating at times, but I must cling to the passage that tells us to train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he shall not depart from it.
