A Year for His Return

may 21 2011It’s 2013 and another year for all Christians to say, “Perhaps this will be the year that Jesus returns!”
That’s an event I’ve been waiting on since 1975, when I accepted Jesus as Messiah Savior.
Though He has not returned in the past 38 years, I do not doubt that it will happen.
If you know me or have kept up with the blog then you know that I even predict the day that He will return (Yom Teruah) though I’ll admit I don’t know which one it will be – perhaps it is the next one!

Even though I have such faith to believe in His return, not everyone else shares my outlook and optimism. Scoffers will come in the last days, walking according to their own lusts, and saying, “Where is the promise of His coming? For since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of creation.” 2 Peter 3:3-4

I can understand why there would be scoffers. Too many groups or “ministers” have announced His return on this date or that day; days that came and went without His appearing. Every time a new date is given, a scoffer will appear. Remember 88 reasons Why The Rapture Will Be in 1988 or Harold Camping’s date of May 21, 2011, which when not fulfilled was refigured for later that year.
I’m sure some that doubt my idea of Yom Teruah.

However, to scoff at the return of Jesus is like saying you’ll never be robbed.
It is written you yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so comes as a thief in the night. 1 Thess 5:2
Also the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night. 2 Peter 3:10
And “Behold, I am coming as a thief.” Rev 16:15

Our church has been robbed several times and our house was broken into, though that was over 35 years ago.
Had we known that thieves were coming we would have been awake expecting them.
Even if a thief had said, “You’ll be robbed this year” that would give us some indication and we could better prepare.
Jesus said, “But know this, that if the master of the house had known what hour the thief would come, he would have watched and not allowed his house to be broken into. Therefore you also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.” Luke 12:39-40

I think what many Christians miss and what the world does not know is something else scripture says – But you, brethren, are not in darkness, so that this Day should overtake you as a thief. 1 Thess 5:4
As a Christian that day should not overtake you by surprise. You should know the day and not scoff.

  1. My dad told me of time when he was young, someone predicted the date and hour, and to meet the Lord, a man in the community climbed up on a hay pile. Dad then said,”As far as I know, he is still on that pile of hay”
I agree with you, we CAN know the season and possibly even a day of the year, but not the minute, not the explicit hour..

  2. Living for God on a daily bases, moment by moment, gives us times with our Lord. To learn the sound of His voice, to experience the presence of His Spirit. He does talk to us! He said He would…so we just need to believe Him.
