Held Accountable

accountability-1I’ve thought about the birthday’s that I can remember throughout my lifetime.
I can remember the 50th and the 40th pretty easily.
The 18th and the 21st were milestones.
I remember my 12th birthday because it was the day my parents divorce was final.
My 7th birthday is still in my mind because, for some reason, I thought to myself “I’m seven years old now!”
There is one birthday that stands out above the rest.
My Aunt Sarah would drop by and take me to Sunday school and church with her when I was young.
I remember the Sunday school teacher saying something along the line of “if you don’t accept Jesus as your Savior by your 13th birthday, you could die and go to hell!”
You may not agree with what he said and you may not be one for scaring folks into heaven – but it sure had it’s affect on me.
I was miserable for most of my 11th and 12th years. I actually worried for 2 years about going to hell, even though it would be 6 more years before I finally made my decision to follow Christ.
I know the teacher probably just wanted to convey some type of year of accountability.
It made me realize that I was a sinner but for those years that follow I didn’t care about that too much.
Accountability comes at different times for each; some are as young as 4 or 5 and others are closer to their teen years.
Rest assured that you are accountable to God.
Nothing in all creation is hidden from God. Everything is naked and exposed before his eyes, and he is the one to whom we are accountable. Heb 4:13
You can hold yourself accountable right now before God or you can wait until you die.
Yes, each of us will give a personal account to God. Rom 14:12
Either way it will happen and it’s better to happen now while you have the opportunity to accept Jesus as Savior.

Life is like a cash register in that every account, every thought, every deed, like every sale, is registered and recorded.

  1. I had an experance with God when I was 17 & was baptized. Three months later I couldn’t even remember His name. When I was 25 I ask Jesus to be my Master, & have lived for Him sense. Harold was 42 when he found Christ. Our daughter was 5. Oldest granddaughter was 3. Just several examples of NOT knowing the exceptable age. And how it’s never to early to start teaching our children of God’s love.
