You shall love your neighbor as yourself: Lev 19:18
I find it quite easy to love my neighbors; they’re really good people.
There is a couple across the road about the same age as my own children; so I’ve known them for quite some time. They now have 3 adorable children of their own.
Next to them are his parents, who I have also known for a long time. He pastor’s one of the surrounding churches.
It’s easy to love my neighbor as myself when my neighbors are like myself!
It’s much more difficult when your neighbors live in a way that is contrary to you.
If I like peace and quiet and to go to bed at nine o’clock; then I would find it hard to love my neighbor who throws a loud party every night until two in the morning.
“Ouch! I really didn’t get much sleep last night because of that party and I’m thinking about some target practice at 5 a.m. just to wake my neighbor up so I can get even.”
This would bring to mind another scripture: Let none of you think evil in your heart against your neighbor; Zech 8:17
Perhaps it’s just easier for me since I only have two neighbors, unlike my daughter that lives in a neighborhood and is surrounded by all kinds of different people.
I’ve met three or four of them, including Sebastian, who lives next door and is from Nigeria. He is very polite, helpful, and a hard worker.
He has a spouse and children, just like many other neighbors and this sort of binds them all together. All of them want a safe, quiet, neighborhood to raise their family.
Unlike the college kids that live in across the street, with their loud street-racer type cars, parties, and semi-nude posters in the garage.
The Bible says no fewer than ten times to love your neighbor as yourself!
If God took the time to repeat Himself that many times then it is a concept we need to be hearing!
Not only a concept but it is the second greatest commandment; the first being
“The first of all the commandments is: ‘Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one. And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ This is the first commandment.” Mark 12:29-30
If we would love God with our whole being then it would be so much easier to love the good and rowdy neighbors!

I do want to be obedient, but there are times when He speaks the Word into my heart, “love them”. There are some that prefer I didn’t. Cause I carry them to the throne of grace in Jesus name.
