The End of Sacrifice

no more sacrificeContinuing with yesterday’s thought on the sacrificial death of Jesus and the forgiveness of your sins.
I quoted 1 John 1:9 at the end of the blog – If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from ALL unrighteousness.

The word “all” only means one thing to me and that is ALL!

The Saviors death was a one-time event to cover the sin of mankind from the fall of Adam to the Day of the Lord.
I understand that under the Law sacrifice was required. This requirement was never a permanent fixture.
The old system under the law of Moses was only a shadow, a dim preview of the good things to come, not the good things themselves. The sacrifices under that system were repeated again and again, year after year, but they were never able to provide perfect cleansing for those who came to worship. If they could have provided perfect cleansing, the sacrifices would have stopped, for the worshipers would have been purified once for all time, and their feelings of guilt would have disappeared.
But instead, those sacrifices actually reminded them of their sins year after year. For it is not possible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins. Heb 10:1-4

If the Law is a shadow then when you follow the it to the source of light you will find Christ is the one casting the shadow.
First, Christ said, “You did not want animal sacrifices or sin offerings or burnt offerings or other offerings for sin, nor were you pleased with them” (though they are required by the law of Moses). Then he said, “Look, I have come to do your will.” He cancels the first covenant in order to put the second into effect. For God’s will was for us to be made holy by the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ, once for all time. Heb 10:8-10

The sacrifice of Jesus put an end to the need for other sacrifices.
And when sins have been forgiven, there is no need to offer any more sacrifices. Heb 10:18
When you accept Jesus as Savior and His forgiveness of sin by His sacrifice then there is never a need for Him to die again for your sin.
That can only mean that His blood certainly does cleanse you from ALL unrighteousness.

This doesn’t give you the freedom to do what you want though! More about that next time.
