Milk vs Meat

saltYesterday I took a look at the milk and meat of the word. Anyone can get the milk of the word. Basically all you have to do is read.

Take this verse for instance: “You are the salt of the earth. But what good is salt if it has lost its flavor? Can you make it salty again? It will be thrown out and trampled underfoot as worthless.” Matt 5:13

On the surface it’s a really nice sounding verse. I like what it has to say and it makes me feel good.
It’s a simple truth.
And you move on.
That’s milk.

But the verse is meat.
Jesus called you the salt of the earth!
When you discover the properties of salt, you will discover your properties in Christ.

Salt is a seasoning. It enhances flavor. It makes the bland taste come to life.

Salt has an ability to change the boiling and freezing properties of water.

For centuries salt has been used as a preservative. When meat, like pork, is packed in salt it draws the moisture out of the meat and kills the bacteria that would cause spoilage.

Here in the deep south we understand crawfish. Before you will begin cooking them you will purge them in salt water. The salt will make clear up the crawfish intestines.

So you are the salt of the earth! You enhance those around you with your life in Christ. You have the ability to change the lives of others, like changing the boiling point or freezing point of water.
You are a preservative. Jesus offers salvation which preserves your life eternally.
And you purge others of their sin by your witness and testimony of Jesus.

When you simply read the milk of the word you’re just salt.
When you get into the meat you are much more.

Be much more! Eat meat!

  1. With all that’s happening within our government people need to be reminded whoes we are, and what we can do through our Christ. Complaining & helping to deepen anger in others will not accomplish anything. But if we’d be SALT … Either way we should obey God & not be afraid.
