Talk about others to God

gossipJesus turned to Peter and said, “Get away from me, Satan!” Matt 16:23

I’ve been called a lot of names in my time but Satan is not one of them.

I’m curious how this made Peter feel. Just a few days before Jesus praised him for being a rock – a pillar of the church.

At least Jesus said this to Peter’s face. He did not go behind his back and talk about him to the others. He confronted him face-to-face.
As far as I can tell this had no ill-effect on Peter; he didn’t get puffed up and leave the group or sit in the corner and sulk.
In fact, it’s not long after this incident he is with James and John when Jesus is transfigured.

How do you feel when people call you names, most of which are behind your back?

Are you guilty of this? I know I am.

Better to pray for others before God, than to talk about them behind His back!

If you are going to talk about someone else, then talk about them to God. He already knows about them – and you!

Abba Father, forgive me for talking about others behind their backs and calling them names. Help me to see the good in people and to pray for them.
In Jesus’ name. YES&AMEN

  1. You’re a dirt bag! According to Genesis our (first ever man) was formed from the dust of the earth. Many times when we’re call an ugly name the speaker does not have the true meaning of their words. Yes it does hurt. That pain quickly turns to concern when I remember that my heart felt prayers for them is like heaping coals of fire on their heads. I believe that means my Father is working on them. Lord Jesus please help me be quicker to forgive.
