Cleanse the Temple

John 2:16 And He said to those who sold doves, “Take these things away! Do not make My Father’s house a house of merchandise!”

Although the Temple was the place to bring your sacrifice, it was not the place to purchase it.

I’ve heard many people speak on this incident saying that it wasn’t the selling that was wrong; it was the obscene profit they were making off of it.

I personally think it was wrong for them to be there at all. Should sacrifice be convenient?

The Temple may have been the place to bring sacrifice, but can you imagine the noise, the smell, and the constant commotion of selling animals? How could there be true worship of God with all of it going on?

Is business being done in God’s house today?
Are things being bought and sold?

I’m not talking about your local church – I’m talking about YOU!
Don’t let yourself be defiled by the business of the world, by sin, and by impurity!

Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? If anyone defiles the temple of God, God will destroy him. For the temple of God is holy, which temple you are. 1 Cor 3:16-17

Abba, Your Spirit fills me and occupies every space. Help me live accordingly! In Jesus’ name, YES&AMEN
