The Flaming Sword

Gen 3:24 So He drove out the man; and He placed cherubim at the east of the garden of Eden, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to guard the way to the tree of life.

When I was young I use to imagine walking along and having a flaming sword come out of nowhere! My thoughts were based upon today’s scripture.

I imagined that the Garden of Eden and the tree of life still existed and the cherubim were still on guard. I thought that anyone that unknowingly approached the tree would be met with that sword.

The flood of Noah’s day probably washed away any probability of that happening. Indeed, the flaming sword to guard the tree of life has been replaced by another sword to point the way to a tree of life – the cross of Calvary!

That sword is the word of God. (Heb 4:12)

As a Christian, you are charged with carrying that sword and pointing the Way!
You are responsible for the message of Christ and the love, forgiveness, salvation, and eternal life He offers.
Isa 49:2 He has made My mouth like a sharp sword;

That sword should still be flaming today.
Jer 5:14 Behold, I will make My words in your mouth fire
Jer 20:9 His word was in my heart like a burning fire
Jer 23:29 “Is not My word like a fire?” says the Lord,

The cherubim no longer have the flaming sword – you do!

Abba Father, let Your word burn hot in my heart and my mouth that I have to “spit” it out and share it with others. In Jesus’ name, YES&AMEN!

  1. I count it a great honor to be trusted with the Word/flaming sword and a fearful responcebillity. May God guard our mouths that we use it correctly.
