I am by no means perfect but I know the pathway to perfection and have seen a glimpse of it. But keeping my eyes on Jesus all the time is hard in a world that keeps enticing me away.
I am not tempted by all things, yet the adversary knows what temptations will work.
I personally feel like it’s impossible to hang on to Jesus and hang on to the world. As Jesus said,
“No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other.” Matt 6:24
Judas was one that wanted part of both worlds. Last time you saw how he was in it for the money and was able to persuade the other disciples to his way of thinking.
Yet, Judas is a loner. He doesn’t want to split any proceeds or profit.
Then an opportunity came for him to make some money for himself, without having to steal it out of the disciple treasury; an idea to secretly go to the ones that wanted Jesus the most.
Then one of the twelve, called Judas Iscariot, went to the chief priests and said, “What are you willing to give me if I deliver Him to you?” And they counted out to him thirty pieces of silver.
So from that time he sought opportunity to betray Him. Matt 26:14-16
Thirty pieces of silver! At today’s prices per ounce and just making an assumption that each piece was an ounce, that would be around $500.
What are you willing to do for $500?
The word of Jesus again,
“For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?” Matt 16:26
Judas gained $500 (today’s price) but at what cost to himself?
Yet Judas is going to be given another chance because my Savior is the God of the second chance.
