Not just St. Patrick’s Day.

It’s March 17th – St Patrick’s Day. Wear green!

According to an online article, Patrick was born around 385 in Scotland, his parents were Romans living in Britian in charge of the colonies.

As a boy of fourteen or so, he was captured during a raiding party and taken to Ireland as a slave to herd and tend sheep. Ireland at that time was a land of Druids and pagans. He learned the language and practices of the people who held him.
During his captivity, he turned to God in prayer.

His captivity lasted until he was twenty, when he escaped after having a dream from God in which he was told to leave Ireland by going to the coast. There he found some sailors who took him back to Britian, where he reunited with his family.

He had another dream in which the people of Ireland were calling out to him “We beg you, holy youth, to come and walk among us once more.”

He began his study for the priesthood and was later ordained and return to Ireland armed with the Gospel.

He worked many miracles and wrote of his love for God in Confessions. After years of preaching, ministering, working miracles, living in poverty, traveling and enduring much suffering he died March 17, 461.

But today isn’t just St Patrick’s Day. It’s YOUR saint’s day if you are a follower of Christ.

It is written,

And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ, till we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ; Eph 4:11-13

Jesus gave someone like me (a pastor) to help someone like you (a saint) so that you can be ministry ready and edify the body of Christ.

You’re a saint. I, too, am a saint because I am a follower of Christ and I am also learning from other pastor’s, apostles, prophets, evangelist’s, and teachers.

So Happy Saint YOUR NAME day! Wearing green is optional!
